Best 4 days Itinerary in London
By Two World Backpackers
London has been our home for the past 7 (Laura) and 6 years (Andrés) and there’s always so much to explore and do! While it is impossible to see everything in 4 days, we have made the best itinerary for you to at least cover the majority of the main attractions and some hidden gems.
So, if it’s the first time you are travelling to London and don’t know what you cannot miss? Don’t worry, we got you!
We have done it without including the flights as it will vary depending on the flight choosen. Anyway we have left plenty of free time on the first and last day in case you have them those days.
Table of Contents
Day One
On the first day we are going to take the tube to Holland Park where you will find a beautiful Japanese park, Kyoto Garden. It’s one of our favourite hidden gems parks in London.
From there you can perfectly go walking to Hyde Park as it is around 25 minutes approximately or you can take a bus. In Hyde Park we recommend you to rent a bike to see it much better and faster as you have only a few days and there are plenty of things to see. Besides in that way you can rest your feet!
In the park you will find the Kensington Palace, you can search for Peter’s Pan statue, walking along the riverside of The Serpentine Lake, visit Diana’s Memorial Fountain in memory of Princess Diana, the famous corner called Speaker’s Corner where open-air public speaking, debate and discussion are allowed or you can find too the Albert Memorial among others.
You can go out from the park on through Marble Arch exit and walk along the famous Oxford Street if you like shopping until you arrive to Regent Street and turn off to Carnaby Street to enjoy its colourful and unique boutique street such as Levis, Swatch, Pepe Jeans, etc.
Nearby Canrnaby Street you will find Piccadilly Circus with its giant LED screen and next to it is located Leicester Square where you will be able to enjoy of the M&M’s and Lego’s shop just one in front of the other.
Careful! At Lego’s there’s usually a huge queue to go in!
Finally we recommend you to visit Chinatown and Covent Garden where you’ll find nice, cheap and good food places to have dinner.
Day Two
On the second day we recommend you to wake up early and go to the Buckingham Palace to enjoy the changing of the guard, but, you will need to go with plenty of time before to get a perfect spot as it will be crowded really quick.
We recommend you to check the timetable online for that day before going as it is different the summer time from the winter time but sometimes it changes also some weekends due to any special event.
Once finished the changing of the guards and on the way to the Big Ben, you can visit within walking distance the Royal Mews and the famous Downing Street next to it where it leaves the Prime Minister.
Once you arrive to the Big Ben and if you like to visit monuments like us, you need to visit Westminster Abbey. You will love it! The adult ticket costs 23GBP per person and you have included and audio guide in any language.
Right in front you will find the Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament.
Did you know that the name Big Ben is actually the bell’s name located at the top of the Clock’s Tower?
Crossing through the Westminster Bridge it’s the London Eye. The adult ticket costs 38GBP per person and for children 3 to 15 years old costs 33GBP
Last but not least we love to do a walk from the London Eye to the Tower Bridge passing by Southbank, the Tate Modern (the entrance is free and you go up to the last floor to enjoy beautiful views of London), Shakespeare Globe, London Bridge, the military museum ship of the Royal Navy HMS Belfast until arriving to the Tower Bridge and the Tower of London.
Day Three
On the third day you can visit St. Paul’s Cathedral really early in the morning. Adult tickets cost 20GBP per person and children tickets are 8.50GBP per person. Older than 60 years or for those with the student IDs, the price is 17.50GBP.
You cannot leave London without visiting the British Museum and immerse yourself for a while in two million years of history.
We recommend you to go for lunch to the famous borough of Camden Town and get lost in the markets and the old stables currently turned into souvenir or clothes shops, etc.
Only 10 minute walk away from there you will find Primrose Hill, perfect to enjoy spectacular views from all London while enjoying the sunset.
To finish the day, you can go down through Regents Park until Baker Street to visit the house of the well-known detective Sherlock Holmes.
Day Four
Who haven’t watched the famous “A place called Notting Hill” movie with Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant?
We totally recommend you to visit the vibrant and modern borough of Notting Hill above all on a Saturday morning to enjoy the antiques market and the vintage clothes market in Portobello Road.
Here every year thousands of people celebrate Notting Hill’s carnival which parades reflects its Caribbean roots.
Here it finishes our planning for 4 days in London but of course there are plenty of places still to visit. Do you have any place or area in particular that you would like to visit and it’s not in the plan? Leave us a comment and tell us about it, ¡we’d love to read you!
