Grandma's Lentils
By Two World Backpackers
Grandma’s are a treasure, that so, who doesn’t like the meals they make?
Today we are going to make my grandmother’s lentils, which apart from being delicious, are super simple and easy-to-make.
Shall we start?
Table of Contents
Ingredients
400gr Lentils (you know it’s better to make some extra, so we can freeze them and ready to eat another day)
5 Slices of ham (it can be whatever you have at home, it doesn’t need to be sliced)
1 Onion
1 Chorizo
3 Potatoes
Elaboration
STEP 1:
We cut the onion, the chorizo, and the ham into small pieces and we will add it to a pot in which we will also add the lentils.
STEP 2:
We will fill the pot with water until it covers the lentils just enough since we do not want them too soupy. Also, in case we need more water, we can add it at any time. We cover it and let it cook for an hour on slow cooked.
STEP 3:
While the lentils are cooking, we will wash and cut the potatoes into cachelos.
What does it mean to peel the potatoes into cachelos? Very easy. When cutting the potato we will not cut it completely with the knife, but we will let the potato partially split where it wants.
And why do we do it like this? Because this way we will make the lentils thicken a bit.
STEP 4:
We will add the potatoes to the lentils and let them cook for about 20 minutes. After this time, we will check if the potato is well cooked with a knife.
STEP 5:
Next, we turn off the cook and add salt at your taste.
Why do we add the salt at the end of the stew? Because if we put it at the beginning, we will make the lentil lose its skin and we don’t want that.
Finally, we will put a bit of oil, we will move them well in circles to mix it, and we will let them rest for 5 min.
STEP 6:
Tip: We will toast a good piece of bread and we are ready to devour these lentils so yummy and simple that you will surely want more.
Love,
Andrés
