By Two World Backpackers

Food is something we love so much besides travelling, and as London is such a multicultural city, is perfect to taste food from different countries.

Do you fancy delicious and cheal Chinese, Spanish, Indian, Greek or perhaps Italian food? Are you meeting more people for lunch and you can’t decide where to go because each one wants a different cuisine? Then food markets are the solution! In this post we will tell you our top 5 in London.

Table of Contents

Borough Market

It is the most famous in London and one of our favourites where, in addition to great food stalls from anywhere in the world, there are food markets where you can buy the products you want that are usually very well priced. Also, if you are vegetarian, vegan, or want gluten-free food, there is no problem! There are thousands of offers for all tastes.

Our favourite part of this market is the one near the Southwark Cathedral with its artisan foods, chocolates, and delicious food from France, Ethiopia, Cumbria, etc. so we definitely recommend you going there with an empty stomach.

The nearest tube stations are Borough Station, London Bridge Station and Southwark Station.

Camden Market

Camden Town is not only one of the most alternative neighbourhoods in London with its famous facades and its eclectic style shops. It is also a perfect place to spend the morning and take the opportunity to eat at one of its street food stalls in the market right next to the old stables.

There is food from many countries, cheap and delicious! Two of our favourite places are: a Chinese food stand where the owner is always singing and cheering people. It is super easy to distinguish since he is the only one who starts singing. And, another stand of fresh Italian pasta made in a Parmesan cheese that is a superb dish.

The closest tube station is Camden Town Station.

Opening Times:

Open every day from 10:00am to 06:00pm

Boiler House Food Hall on Brick Lane

Brick Lane is not only famous for its vintage clothing, antiques and bargains flea market, but also due to its multicultural food market. It is also one of the best places to eat Indian food, especially if you are a curry lover as it is where the best curry sauces and the cheapest ones are in London.

We love to go on Sunday since all the markets are opened and we can enjoy the morning visiting not only the usual shops and markets but also the Brick Lane street market full of flowers, fruit, vegetable stalls, art stalls, vinyls, etc. However, it is usually the day that is most crowded.

The closest tube station is the Overground Shoreditch High Street Station.

Portobello Market

Another of the most famous markets in London is the Portobello Market in the famous and colourful Notting Hill neighbourhood.

The best time to visit it is on Saturday mornings, which is when street stalls invade the streets since on the other days only a few stores display their products on the streets.

In this well-known neighbourhood you will find many stalls selling clothes, music, handicrafts or antiques on the street of Portobello, however if you continue towards Ladbroke Grove you will find many street food stalls from different countries.

The closest tube station is Notting Hill Gate Station.

The Old Spitalfields Market

Located next to Liverpool Street and just minutes away from Brick Lane, the Old Spitalfields Market is another of our favourites and one of the oldest markets in London.

Like the previous food markets, The Old Spitalfields Market also has food from different countries; however, this market is divided into two areas: one with the permanent food stores and then the street stalls, both with a great variety of food.

If you not only want to go to eat, you can also enjoy the different clothing stores, accessories, decoration etc. both in artisan stores and in boutique stores and renowned brands such as Chanel, Joe Malone, MAC and Dr. Marten among others.

The closest tube station is Liverpool Street Station.

Opening times:

Monday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Sundays from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
